What is it?
The Southern Scholars honors program helps
academically ambitious students reach enriched
educational excellence. As a Southern Scholar,
you join a highly motivated and intellectually
curious group of peers who are honored to be part of this rigorous and rewarding program.

Academic benefits.
Southern Scholars take some of the best classes Southern offers, like the special Honors Seminar where you'll learn about great literary works of Western culture. And you'll have opportunity to meet some distinguished campus visitors.

Financial discounts.
When you complete one year in the Southern Scholars program, you will be eligible to audit one class of your choice per semester without charge for as long as you stay in the program. If you're a junior who's been in the program for at least a year, you'll receive a tuition scholarship equal to the cost of one three-hour class per semester (except during summer sessions). And Honors Seminars HMNT 451 and 452 are free.

Social advantages.
Each year a Southern Scholars Student
Council, consisting of a president and an
executive committee, plans banquets, campouts,
vespers services, and other events throughout the school year.

Special recognition.
When you complete Southern's honors
program, you will receive a Southern Scholars
medallion along with special recognition at your
graduation ceremony. Your final college transcript will also include this distinction.

Lasting value.
You'll get long-term benefits from the
Southern Scholars program, including personal
satisfaction from completing a rigorous program
and increased appreciation of cultural and
intellectual achievement within a Christian
context. Your accomplishment will be a
permanent part of your record, a real advantage
when pursuing advanced education. Past Southern Scholars have gone on to medical school, pastoral work, law school, and graduate work in other fields at such institutions as Vanderbilt, Loma Linda, and Duke.
